Do you think that opposites attract? The answer is Netflix’s latest film, Honeymoonish. It’s an Arabic rom-com directed by Elie Semaan about a couple who decide to marry for ulterior motives. To their surprise, they end up fighting each other despite having little in common. As the story progresses, we learn more about Noor and Hamad’s twisted love story. The film was launched on Netflix on April 29, 2024 and has since become a worldwide hit at the box office. 

Plot Summary 

‘Honeymoonish’ is a rom-com based on the life of a couple who decide to get married to fulfill their ulterior motives. Starring Nour Al Ghandour as Noor, a fitness trainer and Mahmoud Boushahri as Hamad, manager of the Saler Investment Company, the plot revolves around their honeymoon period where Noor jets off to find the whereabouts of her ex, following him to different places. In the meantime, Hamad tries to woo his lady while he clears up the confusion (spoiler alert!) whether Noor is her sister or his wife. Entangled in their own lies, will Hamad and Noor find love in each other?

Best friends of Hamad and Noor decide to set them up as both are in desperate need of a partner to get married. One has to make her ex jealous and the other has the pressure to bear a grandson to his father. Finally, they decide to meet in a library where they show their fake personalities. However, when Hamad asks for Noor’s hand in marriage she gladly accepts.

On the first night of their honeymoon in Lebanon, Hamad receives a call from his aunt, who unexpectedly reveals to him that his bride, Noor, may be his sister. This surprises Hamad, and he attempts to maintain a distance from his wife.

When Noor and Hamad are camping in the mountains, she asks him to tell her about himself. It is then that Hamad states that his mother died while he was very young. He also mentioned that his father had four wives. Noor is impressed by his talent and tells him how much she likes the way he plays the piano. And this is how they begin to convey the love they have for each other.

Thinking to spot her ex, Noor decides to move to a seaside hotel with Hamad where she meets her ex’s wife Aisha. She introduces the couple to her husband, Youssef (who is Noor’s ex).

Hamad overhears Noor’s conversation with Aisha when he learns that Noor is lying to him and leaves the house. When he returns he starts having an argument with Noor who is now also aware of his secret as to why he married her in the first place. In a fit of rage, Noor asks Hamad to divorce her and he does. They are separated due to circumstances but somehow had feelings for each other.

After discovering each other’s secrets, Hamad divorces Noor. He eventually decides to marry his cousin, who is already in a relationship. Even after they separated, Noor and Hamad could not stop thinking about one other. Hamad decides not to marry his cousin and leaves to meet his ex-wife and lover. When he first meets Noor, he declares his undying love for her and admits that he is afraid of losing the most beautiful thing in his life. Noor replies by asking Hamad to promise her that there will be no lies in the future. Hamad agrees, and they both begin living happily ever after. In the end, we are shown a pregnant Noor sharing a laugh with her husband at a beach.
